I want to purchase a nice factory 6 disc in dash stereo radio for my '99 F350, I understand there are many Ford vehicles it can come from from '99 up to '04-in fact I just put my old single disc unit into my Great Nieces '04 Ranger just by swapping the nylon/plastic guide...
I figure someone has upgraded their stereo and has one of these sitting on the shelf....
I have a single disc unit from my 2001 F250...probably the same as what you took out and put in your niece's truck. I pulled mine a few years ago when I put an aftermarket unit in. If you'd like to go aftermarket, take a look at Crutchfield.com. I picked up a Sony with all necessary install hardware for around $125. Since our radios are extra tall, they provided a sleeve that allowed a standard size radio to fit and then have a small storage pocket.
