Looking to buy a 2007 Hybrid Escape
OK I am new to the Hybrids but not new to vehicles. What are somethings I should look for on this. He says the AC does not work and has replaced compressor, condenser, receiver and maybe something else. At this point it would seem to me to be something between the dash and the relays but I can figure that out.
It has Navigation and I was looking that it can show battery info etc.
Just want to know what are the things that you have found are specific problem areas to these Escapes. I had a 2001 Tribute for a few years and other than it being a little clunky we did like that.
Thanks for any info.
Phil

The first Hybrids AC doesn't work as well as the later models, later being the '08 and up model.
I think the scroll valve seems to be an issue at times. I have not replaced mine.
First thing would be to confirm that the compressor is turning on. It will go on even when the AC is not selected as it is used to cool the hybrid battery in back. When the regular AC is selected, the compressor will shut off when the internal combustion engine shuts off under certain conditions. When MAX AC is selected, the internal combustion engine will remain on to keep the compressor operating for AC, and it does a similar thing when DEFROST is selected too.
So, from a functional stand point, the AC on the Escape Hybrid can be a little irritating depending upon the operator's understanding and the conditions outside. If one is doing hi way driving, the AC will work pretty darn well even in pretty hot conditions as the engine has to maintain operation and, as a result, the AC compressor is always running. If someone is doing a lot of stop and go driving in hot conditions, there might be periods where the engine is not running. No compressor operation, so the air coming out of the vents eventually becomes warmer and moist.
