How long do I have to wait to tow?
I have a 10,000lb travel trailer and my new 6.2 gets here this Wednesday and my wife is insisting we go camping on Friday. Were only going about 20 miles away, but what do you think the ramifications are of towing with the new truck when it doesn't even have 100 miles on it? I think the manuel says to wait until 1000 miles to tow anything. What do you guys think?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I think it says in the manual to not tow unless you have have 500 miles. Just got my new truck last thursday spent all day sunday driving around just to put miles on spent atleast 70 dollars in gas just to put miles on for this weekend to tow our travel trailer 40 more miles to break 500!

This one is about 6000 loaded its a lite version. I will have to call the dealer tom. they said they would give me a loaner when I picked up the new one since it took them 9 weeks to get this one. Sad part is the trip to the camp site is about 20 miles and the trip to the dealer is 45 miles LOL.

LOL, I guess I will be the Guinea for all you guys.
Picked up my pickup two weeks ago at the dealer, drove home 35 miles and immediately hooked up to a 15,000 pound trailer. I have about 650 miles on the pickup so far and about 400 of that has been pulling trailers. I am a Farmer and this is also my work truck so don't have any choice in that matter since we are in the middle of Spring work.
By the way, there is no break in period recommended for Farm equipment any longer. They actually want you to take new pieces of machinery home and work it like it will be worked throughout it's life. They don't want you to baby them anymore. It used to be you were supposed to take it easy for the first 50 hours.
I'm not saying you should not follow Ford's recommendations. Just that it is not practical for everyone.

The ring and pinion gears benefit from proper break in as much, or more, as anything else.
New gearsets create a lot of heat if they are loaded heavy. The heat can break down the gear lube, and damage to hard parts can occur.
The owners manual specifies a certain break in procedure for a reason. They don't want to have to tell you to wait 1000 miles before you can tow.
