I always remove the intake tube and do the plugs from the top on both OHV and SOHC. Since the tube is removed anyway its a good time to clean the MAF and the throttle body while your there. Little tight on the passengers side but I never had any real issue even with my big arms. I never ran into stuck plugs even on the plugs that were never changed before so I do not not spray the plugs prior to removal. I always change plugs when the engine is cool. (under 100degF) On aluminum heads the plugs will probably squeal some upon removal especially if its the first time changing the plugs. For aluminum heads I like plugs with the nickel plating but always use a dab of nickel antiseize regardless of plating or head material. I always use single platinums on my own vehicles and change them every 50k miles like I do for modulars. A little premature time wise but you can avoid issues this way and do not keep the plugs in the heads for excessive amounts of time. I always use a 3/8" ratchet for removal and tightening the plugs as a torque wrench is impossible to get in the tight quarters and achieve an accurate torque value. If you have a problem get the plug started use a piece of rubber hose slid over the ceramic of the plug.
