2003 Explorer Alarm

I have a 2003 Ford Explorer that the alarm goes off at any give time. It will even go off in the middle of the night. I have replaced the rear hatch and window sensors. It has been in the Ford shop many times for this and they can't find anything wrong. Any ideas??

What do you mean by "window sensors?" Have you replaced any of the door ajar switches, other than the rear hatch one? Do you ever get a "door ajar" indicator when driving the Explorer?

The window switches for the power windows will not have an effect on the alarm. The random door ajar message is likely what's causing the alarm to trigger. Unfortunately, you may need to either replace them all or datastream the GEM module to determine which particular switch is the culprit. Often it will be either the driver's door or the rear liftgate/glass as those seem to get the most use.

You could try going around and spraying contact cleaner in each of the latch mechanisms, then open and close the doors several times to work it in to see if you door ajar warnings and random alarm triggers go away, at least temporarily. That will let you know if you're on the right track. Be aware that you'll want to protect the paint from excess contact cleaner as it can discolor/damage the paint.

It was the liftgate window switch that was replaced, not the power window switch. Also the drivers door one has been replaced also. Are they adjustable?? The dealer check the GEM but as usual it wasn't acting up then and showed no codes. I think I will change all the switches. How hard are they to replace. Dealer said the wanted about $800 to replace the 4 door switches.

There's a pretty detailed description of replacing the switches, with photos, on this forum. If you're unable to find it using the "Search this forum" feature, post back and we'll post the link.

I have this exact problem. I've tried searching but don't know the proper words to search for I guess. Can you re-post or give me a hint on the right terms to search?
Thanks.

Searching for the keyword "ajar" yields a lot of results (common issue) but will list the thread I was referring to. You can find the thread here.
