Dropped the rear tank today.

I dropped my rear tank this afternoon. I have to say, any drunken **** clown can do this if said clown siphons the tank before dropping it. I had a few drinks and decided I was bored and that tank is coming DOWN like the plague! I figure when wresting a drunken grizzly bear, you should at least match skill. The hardest part was unbolting it. One would think they put that thing up there for a lifetime or something. After some flubbering around with a 5/8" socket wrench and sissy bar, I got her down (hehe) enough to disconnect the fuel lines, vent-er-ma-jigger? ( I already loosened up the fill tube.

I fished out all the large pieces of my old supply filter head and put the tank in the front seat.

Is the gasket for the supply and return head readily available or do I need to order it special? I have the supply filter head coming in the mail.

If you mean the large round seal on the sender port to tank.... they should be available at most AP stores.......... take the old one with you.
I have the supply filter head coming in the mail.
If you get the "right part" IE the OEM filter that goes on the end of the pickup tube, many here would be interested to get the part # and supplier.

I guess he might be one of those guys who thinks the smell of diesel smells amazing, when I am draining diesel i always somehow end up spilling it on myself somehow, granted i love the smell, parents and everyone else hates it however.

I do like the smell of diesel; that's what I was drinking before dropping the tank! I put the tank on the front seat because I have the sender head off it and I didn't want rain or other crap getting into the tank. That Mexican hombre from Sunday might come back and throw a burrito or something in there. The cab already smells like fuel because I have some old rags on the floor that I used to clean misc parts with.

I'll post a link to the Ebay page I bought the filter from. I found it in another thread somewhere on this site.

Ford 6.0 & 7.3 Diesel tank Fuel Filter Screen 1990-07 | eBay

This is the one I bought. He has another listing that says from 83-07 but I think they are the same unit.

yes i love it when people pull up to the multi-fuel pump then complain about getting diesel on their shoes to "smell" up their riceburner.

The gas station clerk gets mad when I hold the pump nozzle over my head and start showering in diesel. I don't know why, he's still making a sale...

I topped off the front tank last week for $3.69.gal. I put about a liter of used and filtered ATF in it, too. I don't notice any difference with ATF in the tank but I have been using 6OZ of Diesel Kleen per tank since I bought the truck.

keep doing that. will extend the life of entire fuel system. I started using the sulfer substitute when i first bought the truck, its got a lot of the same additives that diesel kleen does, just cheaper. But I am gonna start using it here right directly when i get home.

I was thinking about using used ATF as a substitute. I hear a lot of people use it and don't have any issues. I also have a couple gallons of UMO that I could burn off. I'm sure Diesel Kleen is ideal but that stuff is expensive.
