hard shifts, slippage........HELP

ok today we went to lake earie, 50+mile drive, and because its hot out i knew truck would be acting up, but JEEZ super hard shifting sometimes, and slippage on upgrades, (its an all freeway drive) but because i know how to feather the gas pedal, and anticipate shifts i can control the slippage kinda, but what could be wrong???? is it computer problem or physical? i know either my alt, or batt, isnt workin so good, and i heard if the computer dosent get correct voltage, it would cause it to slip or shift hard??? no check engine light was on , and my od was on , and od light didnt blink at all.........im very confused, and po said tranny was rebuilt, (dunno if it was) and i just turned to 108.000, what a day made it there and back with only 2 panic attacks (literally...had to pull off the highway and let wife drive.......which gave me another one)

Ford Fuel Injection » How To Run a Self-Test Here is a link on how to check for trouble codes. Maybe do that first (even if no light on).

Ive just run into the same problem with my 95 f150. it slips when its in 3rd especially when im on the high way. My buddy told me to changed the trans fluid and filter. took it to firestone they only changed the fulid and it still slips.

Have you checked transmission fluid? I dont know if it is a computer problem or not but i dont think that adding lucas transmission fix would not be a bad thing. I added it to my 77 F150 and it stopped hard shifting.

smell your transmission fluid. if it smells burnt, your clutches are slipping excessively And your transmission needs rebuilt

could my alternator going wacky be the cause of all this???? it goes from normal to low to high, im wondering if maybe the non steady flow of electric to computer might be the problem??? i reset my computer (took neg. batt cable off for 30 sec. and then replaced) thinking that might fix it......no luck, sriving around town going from 1-2d is like jumpin railroad tracks......... fluid is fresh not burnt, and clean and full

I have a strong feeling the trans is about to go...the best idea is to run the test, smell the tranny fluid and add lucas and pray. If it does go out look into rebuilding that transmission and adding all steel planetaries and red eagle clutches and a shift kit

well had my alt/batt tested, and they checked out 100%.....man i was hoping this was the problem, i think i might have a loose ground tho, bc i dont care what autozone says, i know my batt gauge was all over the place, and with headlights on defrosters at full and wipers on, my lights go dim ......wish i had an easy answer....i really cant afford a tranny at this time

and autozone said they cant check codes w/o the check engine light on, it never comes on.....and the tranny shop said $50 to check.............man

i hear ya about the tranny bud...i couldn't afford one right now either...i'm glad i have the handshaker...

BTW, you say the check engine light never comes on...are you sure the bulb isn't burnt out? does it come on when you first turn the key on? you could have a code and not know it because of a burnt out bulb...just something to check

good luck bud, i really feel bad for ya

aw darn man, i was halfway hoping it was burnt out and you had a code lurking in the background. you could always find a junkyard transmission and slowly save the cash to get yours rebuilt...i mean, i know you never know how long a JY tranny will last but heck, it might get ya through at least the summer and who knows, maybe a lot longer?
