Hey: Mike Rowe, want a dirty job.

If Mike Rowe wants a dirty job, he ought to tear a 6.0 down. I finally got mine tore down. Had to replace one piston and two valves. Want to thank every one who jumped in and helped me when I had a question. I couldnt believe the crud, (like heavy black wagon axel grease) that was inside the intake, egr cooler, and heads. I took the valves out and cleaned them, sprayed oven cleaner in intake and egr cooler tube and rodded it out. Then high preassure cleaned all. The egr cooler seemed to be in good shape. I pressure checked it to 50 psi. The oil cooler, and egr cooler didnt seem plugged at all but still flushed them. This truck had 160 K miles on it when I bought it with a locked motor. (turbo had went bad and a vane went into one cyl. and damaged a piston and two valves.) I am on a limited budged and there probably was alot of things I should do since I have the engine out, but an trying to get by just as cheap as I can because I have never heard this truck run. I did throw in a complete set of rod bearings, although the old ones did not look that bad and miked about the same as new ones. My question is how can I avoid this crud from bulding up again? Some say a egr delete is the only way. I really dont want to eliminate the egr, but I dont want this crud building up. The next time I think I will call Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs to do it. Hope to start putting it back in the truck next week. Lots of work.
