Question 1955 F250 Brakes

I have a 1955 F250, I was wondering if I could use the 12 1/8" X 2" brake drum and shoes instead of the 12" X 2" that originally came with the truck? I have a 1968 DANA rear which has the 12 1/8" X 2" set up, can't seem to locate the 12' X 2" front drums. Did the backing plate change between the two? I need 2- rear brake drums 12 1/8" X 2" and 2- front either the 12" X 2" or 12 1/8" X 2" if they will work.

12" x 2" brakes used thru 1955. 1956 was the first year for 12 1/8" x 2" brakes.

2) 1D-2211-B .. Right/Left Rear Backing Plate / 1951/52 F2/F3 / 1953/56 F250.

2) TBAA-1126-A .. Rear Brake Drum-Use w/12" x 2" brakes / 1951/52 F2/F3 / 1953/55 F250 / Obsolete

No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
-----------------------------------------------
2) B6D-1126-A .. Rear Brake Drum-Use w/12 1/8" x 2" brakes / Obsolete

Applications: 1956/58 F250 / 1959/66 F250 2WD/4WD

COLLECTORS AUTO SUPPLY in Oroville WA has ONE = 800-414-4462.

NOS PARTS SOURCE in Olathe KS has ONE = 913-220-5746.

I don't know if these drums will fit, I'm just listing the part number/applications.

Thanks for the info Bill, NPD has the 12 1/8" X 2" drums front and rear, just wondering if the 12 1/8" X 2" will work without changing the backing plate.

1956 used the same backing plate as 1951/55 and has the 12 1/8" x 2" brakes.

Got my 12 1/8" X 2" front and rear drums from NPD yesterday, looks like they will work, put them beside the old 12" X 2" drums, looked the same except for the "Ford" logo stamped on the old ones.

How did those 12 1/8 drums end up working out. Pulled mine off today and they are shot.

Worked out great, only problem is my front wheels will not fit because of the 1/8" difference, not a big problem, they were 15" wheels anyway, plan on getting 16" some day. I do not have the truck on the road, but I'm sure they will work fine, I replaced everything.

thanks, I'm starting my search for the 56 drums now. I've got the truck pretty much torn apart for now so I've no shortage of issues to address. I'll post to my build thread how things turn out.

So I was able to find 56 drums via Napa. P/N is 440-1025 at $98 for the pair. Only minor differences that I don't see impacting the application. I'm wondering if the original drums had already been swapped out in the past. I'll try and post a pic later of the side by side. I still have some clean up before I am ready to reassemble. Internet shopping is great but it was nice being able to compare side by side before dropping the cash.

Drums for F250

Great-I just pulled the back drums from my 53 f250 and they are very bad. I will use your research to order a new set of the 12 1/8" diam. Drums.

1953 F3 Replacement Brake Drums

So I see a couple years has passed since this thread was updated.

Did you try the >1956 12 1/8" x 2" x 8 lug x 6.5" drums on your OEM backing plates with the OEM hubs?....and did everything bolt up without any problems or mods??

I'm hoping this is a good news story and response as the original OEM drums are no where to be found on this big ball we call earth but I am able to suss out 12 1/8" x 2" drums.

Did you do both front and rear?

also, just the front. Swapped the rear end from a 68 F250 for friendlier gearing.

Thanks for that response....that is good news.

Did your new front drums have 11 holes? 8 for the lugs and 3 for the drum anchor screws or only the 8 lug holes?
