Before you go getting a tuner/chip I would make sure you have all of the preceding mods to go along with it. If you dont have exhaust and gauges and start running hot tunes like 120 and 140 chances are that you will do some damage to the truck. Not being able to monitor what is going on under the hood is not a good thing.

look into a 6637. www.riffraffdiesel.com has a 6637 filter kit. Get rid of that stock box that doesnt seal worth crap.
Mudding and water shouldnt affect a cold air intake.. unless you dont have fender wells or wheeling in 6 foot deep waterholes.

Smoke is fun, but its a waste of fuel and generally hard on the engine without really going faster. I think Jody's 80e tune may have actually been faster than his 120 tune in my truck - but 120 smoked like a freight train and sent EGT's thru the roof.
I have someone else's tunes now and this 100hp tune will puff out a small black cloud at take-off, but clears to a gray haze almost instantly. All of these tunes pull harder too and EGT's max out at 1200* - I could almost say I don't need gauges. This 'tuner' only writes a max 100hp tune because he says thats about all you'll get from stock injectors (on the dyno).
As far as fuel economy goes, NO chip will improve fuel economy more than driving conservatively will.
Putting a Pete's Cover on a 6637 should help keeping the filter dry to some extent - but I think a well-sealed stock airbox or an AIS filter are prolly better options. Yes, stock airbox gets a bad rap - but the fact is it can work fine if ya take care to install it properly. The stock element flows plenty of air and does a good job of filtering it. I would NOT recommend the zoodad mod to anyone, especially an off-roader. The only thing this mod does is let more DIRT get to the filter - ultimately shortening its life. There simply is no measurable 'cold air' or any other benefit...
