I have 4.88's with 35" tires. I wouldn't go any lower with 37's. I normally have a trailer behind me but without the trailer it drives very nice. Much snappier than stock. Plus, 4.88 with 35" is very close to 4.30 with stock tires.

The only issue is that the installer pointed out that the pinion is pretty small with the 4.88s and he said to be careful when in reverse. I have had to back my 10,000 trailer up a long, rough, steep hill a few times and didn't have any problems. I was in 4wd low at the time.

Thanks. That was basically what kind of an answer I was looking for. Now if I can just find the right price, im good to go.

 

It is possible that the great state of PA charges more for gear changes but I think it must be the lack of shops to do the work or your mechanics are better paid.
