TBC troubleshooting

I am trying to do all my own repairs because $$$ is tight. Can someone please give me help in troubleshooting my TBC FAULT issue. The fault is there with no trailer connected. I know you can clear it by doing a reset but it would be nice to find out what is causing it. My trailer plug at the back of the truck is clean and corrosion free. I would love to have a step by step instruction to start narrowing this fault down. It is an 6.0 2007 with the brake controller factory installed.

The controller fizzled out on you. Mine did the same. Just replace it with a Tekonsha P3 controller. I did and can't be happier. At least I know my trailer breaks are going to work when I need them to work.
