engine braking
I seem to have a problem (I think) with my transmission.
It is a "01 X PSD with appr. 73k mls on it.
The transmission is shifting fine but when I would like to downshift manually(trying to engine brake) the transmission does shift's down (RPM's go up) but as soon as I let go of the accel. (wich i want when going downhill) the transmission drops to idle.
Not neutral because when i want to accelerate again it is still in gear. The trans. does not drop to idle rpm's when overdrive is on.
It used to shift down but it is not doing it anymore.
My dealer could not find any problems and did not understand what I was talking about.
Does this problem sound familiar to anyone out there.
Thanks for any info!

Your coast clutch is not working.
There are several reasons it may not work, but by far the most common is the snap ring that holds the clutch together comes unseated and the clutch falls apart. It's held in place by other parts, but it won't function like this.
See if the dealer will run the diagnostics in the shop manual for the coast clutch. If they do, they'll be removing the transmission to repair it.
