2006 F250-Blown Head Gaskets

About one year ago my F250 6.0L diesel began smoking so bad that I was pulled over,,,,on my was to the Ford dealership. The turbo went out, thankfully it was under warranty. So recently I've been experiencing a whistle from the engine....I thought it may be a turbo issue again. Not so, apparently I have blown head gaskets. I wasn't worried since I had 90,000 miles, still under warranty right. No, the truck turned 5 years old in March.

Has anyone else experienced blown head gaskets? the dealer said they were replacing 3-4 per week. I asked the dealer what caused this, he replied, the bolts stretch.....if the bolts stretch and they are doing 3-4 per week, why isn't this a recall issue? The dealer asked Ford to participate in the repair since I am under 100K and I bought 7 ford truck in '06 from that dealership. They are going to pay $1300 and my portion is going to be around $1800. Is this a do it yourself project? Can it be done for less.

Any advise.Could there be another issue?

i am having mine done for about $1600 with parts but not at the dealership..you need to buy arp head bolts.. they cost $400 on ebay.. these are waaay better than stock bolts and everyone agrees that these do not stretch..if you have not had your egr cooler deleted and a new oil cooler put in the truck by now I would also have that done at the same time.. these are the biggest problems with these motors and once you have them taken care of you should get many more miles from your truck..

I am suprised that you were not aware of this issue since if you search the net, you will literally find hundreds if not thousands of posts concerning it.

Same question posed in the 6.0 section. IMO, you'll get the best answers there.

My head gaskets went at about 55,000. My truck had been puking for about a year before this but only when towing. My turbo and oil cooler were also gone. Lucky I was under warrenty as bill was almost $5,000.00. I bought arp studs which the dealer installed when they did the repairs.

i have a 2006 f250 that blew the head gaskets at 85,000 miles and i was 2 weeks out of the 5 year warranty, and ford would not touch my truck, they wanted $4000 to do the repairs.......so i found a powerstroke mechanic that does the repairs at his house on the weekends and it cost me $2800, with arp studs, egr delete, new oil cooler, head gaskets, turbo upgrade and a few other small parts.........there is currently a class action law suit against international who made the 6.0 diesel engine, over the blowing head gasket issue.
