Picked up this 76 F100 for next to nothing, has a 302 and barely working C6.

Always wanted to build one of these for a fun little driver, here's a pic:



I build Lincoln Mark VIII's, so I'm thinking of the 4.6L DOHC swap, but reading through the post's I haven't seen anybody do it successfully yet with a DOHC, I'll keep looking to get some pointers.

I'll try not to be a noob and ask a lot of questions before exhausting my resources with the "search" feature.

 

Couple of oddities. You say it's a 76, but the "F100 CUSTOM" badge is in the 77-79 location, and the grill/headlights/radiator support (total package deal) and front bumper are 78/79 only variations.

I've heard that a couple times, but the vin on the firewall dates to a 76 and that's the date on the title I have for it as well?

 

people swap a buch of stuff over the years you can gett odd ball crap, just know that when you go to buy parts for the grill.

 

The 78/79 grill and bumper were very popular upgrades back when they were fairly new. The rectangular headlights were 78 high end trim and 79 all. 78 lower end trim levels got the same grill, but had round headlights. Either style requires the matching radiator support, as the headlight buckets bolt to it, round vs square are different, and are higher on 78/79 than 73-77 since the earlier models had the turn signals above the headlights.
Unless you are going for a totally accurate restoration, the later grill is typically preffered by most people.
