I have to say that in my opinion the 5.0 and 5.4 difference in power is slight. I own a 2004 5.4 and have drove tons of them. I have drove 6 of the new 5.0s. The 5.0 is faster but until high rpm it is not noticeable but all of them I drove have had 3.55s. I drove one ecoboost and was very impressed. The ecoboost pulls hard from idle. I think all of these motors perform very well cosidering the weight of the truck. Trucks are not built to be raced anyway.

I think if i was looking at getting one I would lean to the little ecoboost engine. that torque curve it has is ridiculous! And knowing my my little V-6 was outperforming all the competitions V-8's... Priceless.

The 5.0 hasn't been out for 2 years yet to see how it works out in real world use either.

The 4V 5.0 has been out for more than 2 yrs and has been pretty much bullet proof, also it has no turbos and is not direct injected.....

coming from many 5.4s over 10 years, trying to decide on which motor for my 2011 so I drove the 5L, the six cylinder plain and the 6 cylinder Ecoboost this week.

Am leaning towards the Ecoboost---goes like a bat outa hell compared to the rest...hope this is not a mistake???

Neither engine is proven in an F150.

It would be one hell of an engine if it did

The 5.0 is way faster, has way more torque from 1200 rpm up. My 5.0 will pull hills with a 3000 lb trailer without dropping a gear that the 5.4 could never do. It will also get 18 mpg doing it on the interstate (60mph) and 16 in town. This is with a 2wd 3.55 gear vs a 373 5.4 truck. Empty 18-23.

I might be wrong but I don't think I am- hasn't there been an EcoBoost engine available at least in the Flex for the last few years? So what I'm asking is that while it might not be the same engine as offered for the F150 today but a twin turboed V-6 has been in use for several years now right? Has it not been reliable- this I don't know.

Seems to me the 5.0 and the Eco are improvements over the 5.4 and they should be due to technological advances. I especially like the Ecoboost concept and look forward to seeing just how well that engine performs regarding reliability and longevity. What surprises me is the reports on just how well that engine performs while towing heavy loads. Before this came along, I was in the camp of "there is no replacement for displacement". Wonder if that engine will find its way into the superduty trucks?

If you are looking to buy a new F150 then there is no need to compare the 5.0 to the 5.4. Since you can't get the 5.4 the choice is already made for you. Get the 5.0.
If it were me, my feeling is that since I'm not towing a house or drag racing the truck then I would go with the 5.0. If I were, the 6.2.
Of course someone that just invested 40K in a new 5.0 is going to make great claims like 5+ mpg better then the 5.4 (LOL).
Test drive the new 5.0 and do the seat of the pants test. You'll know one way or the other.

I can't vouch for the 5.0 yet, but the Eco has great power and is smooth. The 5.4's I've had and still have now are capable with a nice torque band and with the 6 speed have really helped the 5.4, but the 5.0 has been shown to be a better motor. It has been shown to out perform the 5.4 in almost every way but maybe off the line torque, which I doubt is any way an issue at all. But with all that said, I do like my 5.4, no issues here.

^^^ I agree. I'm happy for everyone that likes their 5.0 but I do love my 5.4. After the problems I had out of pocket with my old 6.0 diesel I didn't want to jump into the first production year of the 5.0, not saying that it isn't reliable but the 5.4 has been around for what 14 yrs? 310 HP is plenty for what I use the truck for and the 5.4 has been proven reliable. Again, not picking on the 5.0 just saying I like my 5.4 and it does what I need it to do I'm sure the 5.0 will be just as reliable.
