MIGHTY proud of my lil half-ton...

Well, here is the story....GF's dad gave me a POS 1976 Dodge dually....And let me tell you, it was a wreck.....Anywho.....

Today, I hitched up the pappy-in-laws 16ft, dual axle trailer...Which is as heavy as the friggin Titanic BTW...And his mechanic helped me load the truck.....

Now, the truck didn't do bad at all....Didn't buck an jerk...It simply chug-a-lugged, and got the load going.....

Pulled it 33mi to the scrapyard....After getting my ticket, it revealed that Me, my truck, the trailer, and the dually all together weighed in at 11, 360lbs.....Not too shabby IMO....

So yeah....Another testimony that a Ford is a tough lil booger....Especially with a 300 I6...

Sad, but true...

The poor thing was weighted down so badly, there was only about 7" of clearance between the Reese hitch and the ground...I even got on the tongue of the trailer and tried bouncing up and down...No dice....There were no wiggle room...

But I have to say...That little thing gave the load hell pulling it .....And 3rd is DEFINANTLY the gear it likes when towing....

Nah, the 460 would probably get better fuel economy than the 300 with an 11k load. The 300 isn't a bad engine though, for a farm/work truck.

For the 30 mile ONE WAY trip, it took a smidge more than an 1/8th of a tank.... So that'd be what? Approx. 3-gallons?

A mere $410....But iwas FREE....Easiest money i've ever made...

And I WAS gonna restore it, but the frame was swiss cheese, as all dodges are....And 1976 is a black year for parts....IDK why...Just is...It was a SC/SB dually....360/4speed...

hahaha, hey wesley, if yer gonna do scrap jobs id get yourself a pair of rear 5000lb or even 1000lb lift bags. i got em on mine and i can have a good bit of weight (on average during scrapping, about 8000 pounds ish.) and with those bags inflated, the rear end wont sag a bit at all.

I had good luck with my 95 by adding 2 leafs per pack on the rear, didnt affect ride quality at all (keep in mind my rig is an extended cab longbox) and with a fullsize on my 18ft car trailer everything sits level.

Wouldnt do it everyday but my favorite recovery with the 200k mile 300-6 was saving my buddys 1993 chev one ton extended cab longbox dually with a locked up 6.5.

hmmm... mpgs on 11k loads... I can speak to that... A 89 F250, doolittle double axle car trailer, and my 88 F250 (both 4x4's) that would count as a 11K load right???

Still got 9-10mpgs over 200 miles... Granted I was only adveraging 55-60 mph to keep the strain off Thumper...
