o2 sensor before and after cat want to straight pipe my exhaust HELP
I have a 99 f150 with a 5.4 liter V-8. I am trying to get all the power I can out of it. I have put an airaid intake, helix air tower, Superchip, gibson headers and dual 3 inch exhaust with a magnaflow dual in dual out muffler. I desperatly want to straight pipe it and get rid of the cats but no one will do it because there is an o2 sensor before and after the cat. I have heard of simm o2 sensors but havn't been able to find any. Any suggestions. Also I am not getting as much gas mileage as I think I should be. I was getting about 12mpg then I got a tune up they checked everything out replaced all my coil packs and replaced my fuel filter and said everything else looked fine. shortly after I put a Superchip in and it is supposed to give you about 2 mpg. Well now i'm up to 14mpg so I don't know if it was the chip or the tune up but i still think i should be getting better mileage considering everything i'v done to my truck should help the fuel economy.

Get an aftermarket high flow cat. You'll stay emissions legal, and you won't have to fool with the O2 sensors.
Dyno testing has proven that to be true. According to engine builder Mike Osucha, (MORE Performance, Charlotte, NC) "We recently built a 396-cubic inch LT1 engine that produced 455 horsepower with an open exhaust system. When we installed two Random Tech converters, the engine produced 458 horsepower. When you look at the complete test results, you see that at some points the engine makes more power without converters than with them. And vice versa. I think the bottom line is that there's a tuning effect when a slight restriction is placed in an exhaust system. But the real point is that with the right catalytic converters, you don't have to sacrifice any horsepower to make an engine emissions legal."

o2 sensor before and after cat want to straight pipe my exhaust HELP
Thanks for that info. If I cant find any simm o2 sensors I'm deffinatly going with high flows even though I was told by the guy who did my exhaust that all converters basically have the same design and a high flow wouldn't do much for power, which I don't believe because I have been researching this for a while. I would really really like to straight pipe it though there are no emission laws here so I don't need to worry about that so if any one has any info on simm o2 sensors and where to find some please let me know. Also any tips for improving my fuel economy would be great also.

o2 sensor before and after cat want to straight pipe my exhaust HELP
WE INSTALLED A 5.0 OUT OF A '87 GRAND MARQUIS INTO A '60 FORD PICK UP. WE HAD THE MUFFLER SHOP GET A SCREW IN DEAL FOR THE O2 SENSORS. WE HAD TO HAVE THEM CAUSE THE 5.0 WAS FUEL INJECTED. WE PUT THE O2 SENSORS CLOSE TO THE ENGINE SO WE COULD RUN W/O THE CATS. YOU CAN TAKE THE CATS OFF YOURSELF AND RUN A METAL ROD OF SOME SORT TO GUT IT OUT AND THEN PUT THE CAT BACK ON AND NOBODY WILL KNOW EXCEPT YOU ( AN OLD '70'S TRICK BEFORE UNLEADED GAS WAS ALL THERE WAS TO BUY). AS LONG AS YOU HAVE THE SENSORS IN THE EXHAUST SYSYTEM YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. ALSO IF YOU GET AWAY FROM THE CITY YOU CAN PROBABLY FIND A EXHAUST SHOP IN SOME SMALL TOWN TO DO WHATEVER YOU WANT.

o2 sensor before and after cat want to straight pipe my exhaust HELP
THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS!!!!! I found what I was looking for. I went to summitracing.com and they did have a simm o2 sensor that said it was for a mustang but I checked with caspers electronics who makes that o2 sensor and it is really for ford vehicles 92-2002 with 2 rear sensors. With these the guy that did my exhaust will cut off that cats and straight pipe it. He wouldn't do it withought these because he was afraid it wouldn't work right withought them. Thanx again!
