Step Sides for an 08 F-250 Crew Cab...

I just bought my first diesel truck which is an 08 F-250 Super Duty XLT Crew Cab. Unfortunately, it didn't come with the steps so I'm looking to add some for my wife and kids. I wanted to post to see if anyone else has my same model truck and if you had added steps to it. If so, which brand/kind? I've had Westins on a Tacoma I had several years ago and they were nice but I really like the flatter design of the Lund style. Should I go with one of these aftermarket brand or try and find some factory steps... thoughts? Also, I'm having a hard time deciding on whether to get the Chrome or the Black bars.... below is a picture of my truck, which do you think would look best? Also, if you have pictures of your aftermarket steps, post up a picture as I would love to see them. Thanks in advance!

Surprised no one has chimed in so I'll bump it back to the top for you.

There's about 10,001 companies that make side steps, running boards or nerf bars. Almost all of them for these trucks mount to the body which I'm not especially keen on but you see a ton of them and don't really hear about too many problems. I want to make a set that mounts to the frame but I've had the truck for 8mo and still haven't gotten around to it yet, so if you're like me buying a set may be easier. As for color - personally, w/ all the other chrome on the truck, I'd go w/ chrome steps as well. But w/ the dark gray color I don't think black would look bad either.

Nice looking truck btw!

Nice Truck, I have the Factory Steps that are right underneath the doors, its hard for the kids & they get slippery when wet. My dads 08 F250 CC has the Chrome Nerf Bars, Good Height and looks better too!, I would definitely go with the chrome.

I hope I am not violating the board rules, but I have the factory takeoffs from my 2007 Crew Cab if you are interested.

I would go with OEM chrome if you plan on keeping the chrome bumpers.

Isn't your exhaust hanging a bit too low?

Thanks for the feedback guys! I'm thinking Chrome is probably the way to go too. OEM would be nice if I can find a used set in good shape nearby. The dealer is asking $400-500 for the set new and I can get a set of aftermarkets for around $300.

@Trey - I post a message on your profile. Let me know.

@JC - Now that you mentioned it, it does look a little low in the picture. I figured it was just because of all the emission junk it had on it but that may not be the case. I'll have to check it out when I get home.

Yeah, I think one of your hangers came loose.

The OEM steps look better IMO because they are flat. I want a set of those for my SuperCab. The SC steps are hard to find.

I like the factory set because they are flat too. That's what I liked about the Lund aftermatket steps... they are flat also and I can get them for around $300.

Also, the OEMs use the holes that are already present on the underside body pinch weld.

I have the factory chrome tubular one on mine and the wife and nieces and nephews like them. They have the flat step plates like you mentioned.

I would be careful with Nerf Bars I know a guy that slipped on Nerf Bars and got caught between the bars and the truck. Compound fracture and spent quite a few weeks in a wheel chair. I would opt for flat wide aircraft aluminum running boards. I have had chrome and it will peal off and need replacing. I have aluminum running boards on my new truck and had them for 6 years on my 2000. Had to remove the chrome nerf bars the previous owner put on the truck due to pealing and sever rusting, as well as for safety... Fleabay has many styles and prices for boards.

Chrome OEM? Mine were black on my Lariat Crew Cab. They have been up on the top rack of my pallet racks in my warehouse since the week I bought the truck. I (and my wife / son) loved the factory ones, but once I lifted the truck I needed the type that hang down further to assist climbing into the truck.
