A bad connection, sending unit or bad gauge are all possible

Could just be fuel sloshing around.

Mine does that too, on the front tank only. I'm pretty sure it is a dead spot in the fuel level sender in the tank because the gauge works fine on the rear tank.

Mine too!! lol I hate putting gas into the front tank because it'll dance like that. One minute it'll be completely topped out, the next it's on E..Strange things these tank floats are.

Adding to what I said above, the gauge works fine on the front tank until I get down to around 1/4 tank, then it goes crazy.

It sounds like bad spot in the sender. There are little metal slots on the sender and the sensor picks up on them. Over time they can end up wearing out or coming off and you will have a dead spot there where the sender will be bouncing between the good spots.

It could also be a fuel filled float. It could be the fuel sloshing around also but there should be a buffer for that so it doesnt happen in which case, sending unit again.

I say check the connections and if they are good replace the fuel sender/pump (I do em together cause its like 110.00). These trucks seem to be known for this sort of issue. I know of plenty that have gone this direction.
