Washed my 6.0 and now it wont run
I now know not to be so stupid as to spray this motor and all of its sensors with water.
The best lessons learned and all that stuff.
So now I have to fix what I tried to clean.
After soaking the motor I did crank it and it idled for a couple min so I shut it off.
Four hours later I went to leave and it was hard to crank, took two or three times and then it only idled low and started to have a slight surge. I let idle till it died . I guess it was about 6 or 7 mins. Then it would not crank up again.
Waited one hour and it cranked in the same manner as before, low idle after a couple of times cranking only to go dead after 6 or 7 mins.
So I started checking on here only to find that I should have done that first because a few people said they had done the same thing with similar results
24 hours later (hoping it would just dry out) I tried cranking with same results. Tried cranking with the ICP unplugged then plugged back in and it cranked on the second crank with a better idle but still will not take me pressing the accelerator.
Pulled the ICP out and cleaned, truck still cranks and runs the same with alot of white smoke.
I have read some about the egr and the ficm but I am hoping that it is something that is just wet and needs to be dried .
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I'm lucky then because I've never had a problem with my pressure washer.I just don't aim it at the connectors and such.you need to take all your connections apart and dry them out.I would start at the ones by the driver side battery then go to the ficm.hopefully you didn't damage anything.

I always wash my motor along with the under carriage.
Weather its the hose or power washer. When I want to do under the truck, I move it to a dry spot in the drive way and lay on my back and give it a good cleaning.
For my motor I usually have/buy degreaser spray it on let it soak for about 5 min. Wash it off/out. Then spray a engine cleaner let it soak for 5 hose it off. Looks great when done. I always do this everytime I wash the truck.
It's only seen the car wash 1 time.
Anyways, check your ficm/connections to it. And all fuses under the hood

Sounds like you got water in some connector and shorted a connection and hopefully didn't damage anything. I would go buy a few cans of electronic parts cleaner, un-hook the battery and start pulling apart connectors and spraying them down with the cleaner (it evaporates quick and takes water with it plus it will clean and prevent the water from corroding the connectors). Side note: I've saved the wife's I-phone with it several times just sprayed as much of it I could into the internals and let it drip out, let it dry for a few hours and it's good to go until it's next trip in the washer/margarita.

Thanks for the respons guys.
I need to update .
It has been three days now and I still have trouble.
No the engine light is not on after cranking and oil pressure is fine but the symptoms are the same. I have pulled and cleaned the ICP , checked the ficm voltage (48 switch on/ 48 running) I have even done the egr cleaning.
The idle is ok but with gray to white smoke.
I unplugged the Icp when running and the motor tried to accelerate then died.
When I push the accelerator it will try to idle up but starts to surge hard.
I am going to start with the electrical cleaner on every thing I can find and see what that does.
Man.... never will do this again!!!

Keep track of which connections you try the electrical cleaner on, as you go. It would be a good thing to document your findings for others that might have the same problem some time in the future. 3000 FPS has an interesting idea for checking the accelerator peddle. The symptoms seem suspicious thereto.
I have washed my engine compartment a time or two and have never had this issue. I guess I have been lucky. I'll use much better care in the future.
Good luck.

I use an industrial degreaser I have that is caustic, will eat glass or aluminium if sprayed on dry, directly, full strength. I dilute it 50/50, and soak the engine cold, start it up and get warm while keeping it wet with the solution then once its up to temp I use my pressure washer hooked up to a tankless water heater and wash away with 130* water while running the engine. Have done it this way for years and never a problem on any of my vehicles. Learned this in the military 20 years ago and has never let me down.
If all you used was a water hose there is something wrong under the hood, you may have just found it by putting water on it. Wire chafing or bad connectors?
