VOTE: Best Ford Engine?

Best overall engine I would say is the 300 I6. You could use it in about anything. With the help of forced induction 350 HP is very do able and it would and it would take the beating. Too bad Ford had to retire this great engine.
Best BB is the 385 series.460 and 429 were power houses and the term there's no replacement for displacement is true. The efi models with mass air could would be diesel killers with forced induction.

The 300 I6s is winning.
Here's for you dragsters or people saying the 300s are slow. Look at this 300 straight 6.

best ford engine
Well i have two picks.
289. Since im old enough to remember my dad swore by them.
2.3L that was in the 87 Ranger. I had a pair of Rangers, both 87, on 4x4, one 2 wheel drive. I never had any major engine trouble with either one. One had over 300k when sold in 2002 , i still see it around town today. The other had about 260 k and also is still running. Great engines in my opinion. Had a bit of trouble with the dumb modules on the distrubitor. But the engines them selves were great. Joe

I've owned lots and lots of 289/302/5.0 Fords and really love 'em. They are great motors, durable, fast and lots of potential. My current daily driver is my well-worn '88 GT Mustang with the 5.0. Even with 160K miles, it still screams when I ask it to. It also gets great mileage and has been trouble free since new. Can't say the same for any Chevy I've ever owned, and I've owned plenty of them as well. My truck has a V10 and it, too is proving to be an excellent engine well worth wearing the blue oval. It's Fords from here on out for me.
