I am currently looking to buy an f150 with the 5.0 v8 in it. i was looking around too see what they average mpg and tips, advice , and mods to help save gas. the motor has 160 k on it also. thanks, MIKE!

 

Where do you live and what type of use/driving will the truck get?
Have you found a truck to buy or are you still shopping?

The '94+ trucks got some improvements that make them more desirable so I'd suggest you target that group. If you live in hilly trerrain or plan to haul stuff with it I'd suggest you look for a truck with 3.55 gears minimum or budget for a gear change.. particularly if larger tires are in your future. Ford in their wisdom equipped too many of these trucks with 3.31 and 3.08 gears and the 5.0 desperately needs 3.73's or greater.

 

Good tune-up, bump the timing to 14*, good free-flowing exhaust, an electric fan, and run premium fuel, make sure it's without ethanol!
