Fuel filters,miles or time

Ive had my 2011 for 20 months.I have 7,300 miles.I know the manual states changing around 22k but do you think time is a factor as well? I wont hit 22k for two years.Truck will be 3.5 yrs old.Should I just change them at 10k and see how they look?Dont want to waste the money either if its unneccasary.I use it 50/50 towing/unloaded.

I replace mine every 10k miles with intent of going 12k, but end up changing them around 10 anyway.

10-12K is where I am comfortable with changing them. Some go much longer but this fuel systems are expensive to repair.

Oil and coolant is normally miles vrs. time and fuel filters is miles only unless you think you may have gotten some compromised fuel. Tranny fluid and filter is also miles.

I believe time is only mentioned for severe duty, calls for fuel filters to be changed at 600 motor hours.

For those of you that change your own filters, have you found enough material to slow the flow of fuel? I changed mine at 19000 miles and there was virtually nothing in it. Photos that I've seen of used filters had almost nothing. It appears that you could run for a very long time unless you are unlucky and find a bad filling station.

The issue is you don't know how dirty the DFCM filter is until you remove the bowl.
If you've done that, may as well change it because you'll probably need to change the o-ring anyways.

I change mine around 15,000 miles.
