Simple/ Easy Modifications on V10's

waste of money..
there really isnt anything you can do to the V10 on the cheap.. its got a very well designed air/exhaust system..
short of buying a tuner from 5-star/custom tunes, nothing you can bolt on easily will offer any real difference makers.
the 5-star tuner and regearing are about the best sources for true hop parts for these trucks..
as far as exhaust note goes, the V10 doesnt take to performance exhausts like a normal V8 does..it takes a very specific set of pipes to get a note that is even close to a V8 sound.. most times you end up with a droning/ricer fartcan sound if your not carfeul..
for what its worth some of the best V10 exhausts i have heard are from Cherrybomb mufflers/glasspacks.

Do a search for Zoodad mod. Like any mod, some will say it is a waste of time, but I figure it couldn't hurt. The reality is, it allows cooler air than what is in the engine bay.
K&N intake I can't speak to. K&N filter I can tell you from personal experience has benefited all my vehicles on MPG. More power I don't know because I don't have a dyno in my garage, but I do know how to use a calculator so I know for a fact that it improved my MPG. Some people claim that a K&N will leave oil on your MAF sensor. I have never had that issue, perhaps because I clean and oil it according to the directions.

Your 2001 V10 should have the necked down y-pipe. You can get a better one on ebay for it that will improve the flow some. The stock muffler is poop. I just went from 3.73 gears to 4.88 (I have 35" tires) and my mileage went from 8.2 to 12.9.
K&N filters suck. They dont work unless they are dirty and leave an oil film on your mass air sensor. The log exhaust manifolds suck for flow. Get a set of headers to improve that some.
IMHO, 5w20 oil isn't what this engine needs. I hear lots of clattering and whatnot in all my vehicles when I use it. I use 10w30 and she keep s quiet at 170k miles now.
TB spacers are a joke. Tuners work, with a custom tune which in the end will cost you the price of ring and pinion gears (parts).

The only intake that does anything for the 2-valvers that I have seen is the Volant that I installed on mine. The sharp right-angle and quick transition from small MAF housing to BIG hose right after the air box is theoretically a killer. The Volant does away with that and gives more of a home-run straight-shot at the throttle body. I did notice a pick up in torque when I slam the gas to the floor from a dead-stop, and when the Volant gets a little "throaty" it seemed to be a decent torque kick. Didn't dyno it though, so I have no idea.
Other than that, all the other suggestions so far are good ones
Keep up the good work guys!

I have a custom tune K&N intake and Gibson headers with stock exhaust on my V10 and although I have really gotten to try the intake out but I would highly recommend the headers and custom tune if you have the cash... I got the K&N off Amazon cheap that is the main reason I bought it but it does add a nice throaty sound to the engine..
