Track Bar removal...How to??

Hello,

I am trying to drop my track bar so I can take it to the vice to replace the bushing on the frame end of the bar. However I can not get the bar to drop off the ball joint on the axle. What am I doing wrong??

Thanks

Well I ended up getting it off with some anger and a BFH. Can't get the bushing out with a socket and vise so i'll have to find a press.

Use a ball joint fork next time. They're not expensive and you may even be able to rent one for free from your local parts store

Old thread but just curious if you know the size of the nut to remove track bar. I want to make sure I have a large enough wrench and the nut looks big.

I think it's 30mm for the upper bolt head

The torque spec on the upper bolt is 406 ft-lbs, so eat your Wheaties that morning if you're planning on doing it by hand.

Yeah - even my magnum-grade SnapOn impact wrench couldn't budge that nut. Turns out my bushings were fine.

like drey04 said its 30mm socket, and make sure you get a six point socket not a 12point like i did the first time. Its very painful when that crap 12point slips off! And when you reinstall use a 1/2 breaker bar with at least a three foot piece of pipe over the handle and tighten the bolts till you cant no more, then they should be tight enough

Will replacing my trackbar fix my tire wear issues? Alignmen and balance is good. Shocks are new, balljoints are new. I get feathering on both tires and outside wear on passenger tire.
