Engine-Bell-Transmission Help

My 3 year old 1975 F100 4wd pickup, has need of a re-manufactured motor.Mechanically the truck has worked fine even with bad brakes, leaking radiator, plastic clips holding the mechanism's failing.etc, I must and will keep it .The 360 engine is now retaining water in the oil. This to me is not very safe and I'll do what I must to correct it. I can fix everything if I know what it does,so here is a plea for information The engine connects to the transmission and a clutch disengages the engine out-put ,so what engine will connect with what transmission via which bell housing.360 engine or 390,6 bolts to bell,4 bolys to 4speed granny trans #7003CCFL113 01 74 4J5 or4*S.

352,360,390,428 all the same bell housing. And accessories. Would be a complete bolt up job.

^^^ X2. Any FE series engine will bolt right up. 352/360/390/406/410/427/428

If you're looking to replace instead of repair then I would be trying to find a 390. They are usually easily found and cheap. You'll get at least the same mpgs as the 360 but with more power. The larger discplacement (above 400ci) motors are scarce and pricey.

Oh and Welcome to FTE

Nice to have that information. You say bolt up of parts is straight forward. Can you fortell possible difficulties,or recomend proceduries, replacment of botls, upgrades that make the exchange supeior to just swapping engine.

Maybe look into rebuilding your carb while your at it. Change your tranny fluid or gear oils. I would also take the opportunity to replace all rubber lines as well. Make sure you use anti seize on the header bolts too. Makes removal next time much easier.
