F100 Super Nationals

Just got home from the Super Nationals in Pigeon Forge.
Weather was less than perfect. Trucks were all ranges - pure show to beaters
A few slicks were present.
I hate the parking lot concept - it would be much more pleasant in a field or an area that had trees present.
i took no pictures - if someone else was there - pictures would be great

Is this strictly a truck show, or have cars been added? In 2008, I attended this event when it was held at the Knoxville Zoo parking lot, which has asphalt, dirt, grass, trees, a man-made lake and an exhibition building.

Some sections of the swap meet were held on asphalt, some on dirt. It drizzled early Thursday morning. Here in LA LA Land, peeps attending swap meets, rain or shine, are there at dawn, armed with flashlights.

Got there at 7AM, hardly anyone was set-up, there were only a few peeps walking around. I was amazed....this ain't CA, that's for darn sure.

The promotors said they were moving the event to Pigeon Forge in 2009, and allowing cars (there were a few cars at the 2008 event).

The one day F100 Western Nationals is held at Featherly Park in Yorba Linda CA late June. No trucks allowed after (edit) 1979, no cars, no swap meet.

The section of Featherly Park where this event is held is mostly grass, has a lotta trees, also has gopher holes...watch your step.

There were a few cars. A couple of mustangs and falcons. A handful of 50's rods. I saw 3 Broncos.
Personally i just do not like the venue. It is in a city parking lot. I heard a developer has bought the lot and it will be moving again.
I attend the Bronco Celebration in Townsend Tennessee and it is great. I know True Blue magazine folks (same ones that do Bronco show) have a truck show in September in Townsend.

The entry form clearly states:

"Featuring all Pre-1979 Ford Trucks"

I saw a '78/79 there last year, as well as a '76, if I remember correctly.

agreed 76f350spercamprspeal, the application states pre79, as it did last years, and the previous too!

I have attached a link for those that want to register

My bad. I edited my post to reflect that. I've never looked at the entry form, the newest truck I've seen there over the past four years was a 1972. Where the newer stuff was parked I dunno.

And, while you may have seen 1973/79's (your favorites), I only pay attention to the pre 1973 stuff (my favorites), so I musta missed them.

Yeah I don't remember much past 72 myself, from last year, and it is only one line of the application that say's pre 79.. the online application doesn't state a cut off this year, only the paper App. So it is a bit vague to say the least!

I'm don't remember if it was the only post-'72 there but it's the only one in my photo album of the event.....

I would love to go, but I'll never travel to Pigeon Forge, TN. I assume that's where the organizers are from, but it's dumb to call something the F100 super nationals and make a big deal about it when it's so far from a population center. It would be great to see a national show show up either in the center of the country or close enough to civilization that people could travel in and enjoy the time there outside the show. I hate to belittle the Dollywood Museum or Titanic exhibit, but I just couldn't justify taking the trip when there's nothing to do outside the show.

Personnelly have attend the SuperNationals at both location for past several years. The event has it goods & bads; open parking lot is the worst part. (They need to gut the old mall two buildings and use the larger one as a show & shine and the other as a swap meet / vendor exibit).
I also don't like how the current show is open to all types of vehicles ie, mustangs, t-birds etc. I loved it back when one type of a vehicle was show case each year, ie Fairlane, bronoc etc. The Show needs to be F100's era below; so if your 82 fit's or your 52 or even 36 that's fine with me. This year was better than last year IMO; but having a 2011 parked next to a 1915 is crazy. Also for the 40th, 50th, 60th anniversay vehicle (Example 1971, 61, 51 these annual year vehicle needs to be the spotlight vehicle's); kinda like they did back with the 50 era vehicle's whne Pat ran it.
Pigeon Forge offers alot of basic entertianment; and other towns are close enough to get to as well. Townsend, Cherokee etc. Even a Bass Pro shop if your into that stuff.
Over in Townsend; they where hosting a MG show, it was cool to view, and while we attended that; I was told there was a Air Stream show in the area as well this past week. So vareity was there.
But the average Joe doesn't know this stuff.
Charlie has done a good job; but needs to post announcement signs on the strip to pull in more attendance spectators.
I also like to see another car corral area, let's folks that are selling and buying to focus their attention directly on that as well.
Lookiong forward too Townsend in September; can't seem to make this years F100 Fun Run in June; but will prolly focus on it next year instead of SuperNationals.

After Pat sold the Super nationals it turned in to a free for all for any year vehicle.

If anyone ever attended the show at the grand it was tight as sardines in the can. It ran out of room at the grand just like it ran out of room in Gattlinburg. After the move to a population center in Knoxville (aka the HOOD) it started to flounder.

The last event in Pigeon Forge for the 25th anniversary i attended had over 1000 trucks.

The event in Yorba Linda is a lot smaller and only one day. But has lots of shade. There is also a beach run on friday morning and a event at John Force Racing. Pretty decent show to lounge around and see friends. I received lots of looks with my 64 when i entered it as i still had Pennsylvania plates.

F100 Western Nationals, the day before Friday June 24th 2011
The Beach cruise. The beach run will not be happening this year. The cruise will be going through the Inland Empire. Starting in Corona and Chino Valley, stopping in Ontario then on to Pomona. Then winding it's way back to home base. While the stops are exciting in their own rights, It's JUNE 24th HOT AS HELL!!!
I would love to tour these places, but not in JUNE. Since I have been attending the Western Nationals, I have'nt missed a cruise yet. That's because we cruise the Beach where it's cool, afterall it's JUNE.
I will be there on Friday, but I don't want to cruise the Inland Empire, because why? ... .... .... ... .. ....!!!
Don't get me wrong, I totally respect Chris of Pickupslimited, I was just looking forward to cruising the beach, not the heat.

We can have our OWN FTE beach cruise, I am up for that... But I live near the beach, it would be fun to have a group to cruise it with!
