Those with crew cabs... have you ever thought about removing your rear bench seat?

I have a crew cab with a rear bench seat. I almost never carry anyone in the back and if I do, it's just one person.

I have an 8 year old german shepherd that goes with me almost everywhere. My truck is lifted 3 or 4 inches, and that combined with the height of the rear seat is getting difficult for her to jump up into.

I am considering removing the rear seat and building some easy access storage boxes for tools, gear, and a nice space for my dog.

I have also considered installing a single captains chair seat on the passenger side in the rear. Would it bolt right up?

The single chair wouldnt bolt up because the bench has hardware on the ends, nothing in the center. You'd probably be able to bolt down the right side of the seat, and have to fab up something for the left side to bolt to.

One of our company trucks is a chevy 4 door 2008 and since day one the rear seat has been folded up
And never put back down. You make do when it's gone and it sounds like it will benefit you better gone. Good luck. And boy are those german shepherds loyal, I'm sure she's worth it!

I have an '07 service truck. The back seat is removed and I have storage shelves for tools, electronics and test equipment. Works well for my application. You might want to find a newer, '05and up, backseat. the fold down but it is there if you need it.

That sounds like a great idea for my 350. Do the newer seats fold up or down? Either that or I will get one captains chair. I use the back for my dog too. Other than that it is only for trips and now that fuel is up the trips are on hold.

Here is a link to a thread that I did last fall when I pulled the rear seat from my extended cab and replaced it with a plywood deck with storage under.

Same boat as you. Gonna remove backseat this summer for our trip to Alaska. 3 yr old german shepherd wouldnt mind the extra room since we travel with 2 cats as well. Him on the seat, his ears touch the ceiling.
