Torsion Bar unloading tool --best one to buy???

Torsion Bar unloading tool --best one to buy???

When I pulled the truck's tranny a couple of years ago I used a modified 2 jaw gear puller.

With all the energy stored in the torsion bars, that's the last time I want to do that for fear of it breaking.

Suggestions of a good tool to buy would be appreciated.

[A company I Googled has one they say is 'patented' for about $165 with lots of splashy colored ad but there is NO reference to the patent NUMBER and that's a no-no I think.]

You can look up patents here: PatFT Redirect

Just because something is patented doesn't mean it works, it means a reviewer at the PTO has decided it is novel. To be patented something doesn't even have to have been made, it can all be a paper exercise. There are millions upon millions of things that are novel and don't work. Like wise there are lots of things that are not patented that work great.

Some of my patents may be listed there... They actually worked great and made a lot of $$$.

I used a large c-clamp to unload my torsion bars, when I bought mine it was lowered. I looked at the tool online and it appeared to be a glorified c-clamp, got my factory keys back in and no problems with using a tool I already had, sure beat $150 tool I'd use once or twice.

If you got the patents after 1976, it isn't "maybe", they will be there.

Issued in 1988 and 1989, assigned to my biz, so they're there alright.

Anyhow, back to the unloading tool....

The C-clamp is OK, however, I'd like to get a 'professional' tool to add to my bag O tricks.

I could use the puller again but if something gives, that's a lot of iron to have flying around....
