edge back-up camera or get your own camera?

Just wondering if the edge camera is worth it, or is it better to buy a different brand camera? I have seen some local utility companies just mount a normal outdoor security dome camera on their rigs.

Any thoughts?

Might want to acquire a Pioneer Head Unit and a back up camera. I have about $600.00 invested for both. Now my family can watch a movie while driving, through 'ol girl in reverse and not have to deal with my darling wife's ability to navigate a ball to a hitch (ha ha). Seriously, you get the best of both worlds. P.M. me and I can send you pics of my setup!

It would be nice to have a camera recording the drive too. For proof in case of an accident.

I know. Just thought mb there is a separate system entirely to do backup and record driving.

I have an Panasonic head unit in mine and added the rear camera to it a year ago. For the life of me, I can't find a camera to last too long. The first one was my fault(powerwashed it at carwash) On my third one now. My truck sees every weather you can think of. I'm not sure the Edge camera is anymore durable. Get a warranty.

Unless of course the accident is your fault and you're on the way to the hospital when the cop finds the video of CF card and logs it as evidence.

Helpful as always XB70!

Please don't comment unless you have some information pertaining to the question that may help.

If you have any info on a system that can record video and function as a backup camera then feel free to help. Otherwise go fly a kite!

I bought a different brand (Boyo) from Amazon and mounted it on my rear bumper. It works great, and is quite a bit more inconspicuous than the Edge.

It seems to, but there isn't anything special about it. I am looking into either getting brighter reverse lights, or mounting some other lights to the trailer hitch so that I can see when I'm hooking up to a trailer after dark.
