Cab in bed? Will it fit?

Hey guys, looking for experience here - has anyone tried hauling a cab in their long bed -not a stepside? Measuring roughly (and if I treat the cab like a big box), the distance between the wheel wells is too narrow to slide it lengthwise(?) right in. It appears I'd have to build some blocks the same height of the wheel wells to get it to work...only thing is that it would only be about six inches deep with a high center of gravity. I started thinking that the front of the lower cab is "chamfered" where the floor boards are that maybe it would fit in between the wheel wells (possibly raised a few inches on a couple of 4x4's). Here's where I need the vast experience of FTE members. Does anyone have any real experience trying this out? I'd need to haul it for about fours hours down the freeway. TIA

Rent a trailer from U-Haul and strap it down good.

Do you think my whimpy F100 "ball in hole" of fender will be good enough? The 1/4" plate that has the hole in it is reinforced to the the frame - looks factory, but I have no idea what it's rated at.

if it's the same bumper i have, it's closer to 5/16" thick. i have a reciver welded to the bottom of my bumper, and use a reese style hitch in it..... i've towed a 6700 lbs dozor, on a 1800 lbs trailer with mine..... no problems.... i'v also had a 4x4 bronco try winching my out by hooking to it.... burnt the winch up, then tried the ram it in reverse method, only to stall the bronco in 4low. and never even moved the bumper....

i think your bumper would be more then strong enough to haul a trailer and a truck cab...

if you have a way to load and unload the cab (tractor, forklift) i'd just put it in the back of your truck.... take some blocking and strap it in good.... i've hauled a cab for our 580 case in the back of my f-100....( about 300 miles)
