Free or cheap 7.3 mods!
I did the foil delete mod yesterday, and what a pita that was to get off! Anyone have any ideas for anymore cheap/free upgrades I can do for my 7.3? I am a single parent on a budget! Would like more HP and torque and mileage if I can!? I have a stock aircleaner and a 4" MBRP exhaust and a pyro and boost Gage.

Zoodad mod. That is where you cut out a hole in the fiberglass directly in front of your air intake area (behind the grill panel) so that more air can flow directly into your airbox. The only "down side" is that it is easier for bugs and larger debris to get into your airbox, but that's what your air filter is for. I've had the Zoodad on my Excursion for 10 years, and it's never been an issue.
However, if you drove through a plague of locusts of Biblical proportions, you might clog up your air filter.

As for the zoodad mod just put a piece of window screen over the hole to stop anything big from getting in there. You could make an air box for re 6637 too it doesn't do much but it sure does make under the hood look a little cleaner. You could pull the red hose off your WG and plug it on an intercooler boot for more boost, or even better yet take your WG off and tighten it up 7 turns for more boost. The factory WG tends to blow off prematurely and that should help you out a little. AIH delete, It will Only cost you what ever size plug it is I dont remember off hand. I'll keep thinking about them and list more as I do.

John2001 thanks .I could use a better explanation of the disconnection of the red hose on the wastegate and what to plug it in to on the intake? and how to tighten the wastegate. Do I need to take the turbo off to get the wastegate off to tighten it, and what do I tighten? Do I put the wastegate back on after tightening it? Sorry so many questions I never had a diesel with a turbo. Everyone keep the ideas coming. thanks everyone!!

There is a red tube that runs to the WG just disconnect it and plug it by sticking it on your intercooler boot clamp that's all there is to it, I didn't see a difference in my truck when I did it But I also have blown uppipes which is hampering my boost. The WG is two pieces that screw together if you get under your hood and look at the WG I'm talking about the rod that it's connected to that you would want to tighten. It is easier to pull the turbo but not nessary, there's a c-clip that holds it on, get some dental floss and tie it around the c-clip or it'll shoot off any you'll loose it it'll be a pita to put back on I can promise you that some times it's easy to put a little air to it to help. If I were going to do this to my truck today I would pull the turbo. You should also check te play in your turbo shaft a little bit of up and down movement is ok but in and out is bad, that's just something everyone should know and check every so often. If you go to search someone has pictures of tightening the WG and how to do it. I would find it for you but I only have my phone for now I'm in the process of moving into a new house and had the computer shut off, maybe someone else can check it out for you (wink wink)

Here's a link with a video showing how to adjust your wastegate actuator.

I was going to suggest this, but since you are in Illinois, I figured you may want to keep the AIH installed due to your cold winters. But, if you want to remove the AIH during the warm months, that's great. Just put it back when it gets cold. It takes longer to get your tools together and put them back up than it does to do an AIH delete.

I'm in Michigan and you'll be fine if you don't put it back on. The only thing it does is stop the white smoke on start up it didn't change my start up at all and we had our fair share of cold days this last winter. Like I said though thell just be A LOT of white smoke until the cylinders warm up
