1981 F250 2x to 4x4

I have an 80 F250 2wd with a 400 and C6. I can get an 88 4x4 with out the engine and transmission for next to nothing. What would be required, minus mods to the C6 if I wanted to take the axles and transfercase and but them in my F250?

Is the 88 a f250? I needs to be. You still need a 4x4 tranny and transfer case. You will need to fab up mounts for the front leaf springs, your truck has coils. If you do not want to do any fab work, you could put your body onto the newer frame. The front 1981 bumper will need a little bit of rigging to get it onto the later frame though.

Thanks Dave. The 88 is a F250. If I but my body on the 88 will I have to modify the frame?

Scope out the very front of the frame where the bumper bolts on. I don't know what the exact difference is, but I believe it's enough to where the 86-down bumper will not bolt on to a 87-up frame. It may be simple to fix, I am not sure. Everything else should bolt right up. You will want to swap your fuel tanks to, since the later tank sending units won't work with your older gauges.

Heres the front of my 1990 F250 4x4 frame (1987-1991) if it helps anything.
