79 2WD 302 to 460 swap from 4x4
|
Ok, I'm looking for advice. Here's my situation:
Orig. bought a '79 F250 with a 460 in it, and bought it cuz I wanted a project. Towed it home. =(
After a year and new intake & exhause manifolds and carb, I got it to run. But not move. Replaced front pass. side axle shaft (D44) cuz one that was the wrong length was in there and the end was stripped off. Ok...
Then replaced lock-outs. Rebuilt brakes F & R to include drums & rotors. And wheel cyls in back (bailing wire & mice nests were back there!) Power asst. boost drum leak, replaced. Got brakes.
Body r-o-u-g-h! (But boy, I thougt, what fun it'd be to build my first big block!) Wife & I decided to cherry truck out. Started looking for a good donor truck for more parts.
Found an 79 F100 w/ a 302 and C-4. Body much better shape. Interior too. Hmmmm.... after messing with the 4x4 for so long, and deciding to cherry it out, what would we do with the damn thing? No time for pulls... she won't let me thrash it muddin' (not after investing that much money!)
But hey! How many hot rod '79 Ford Trucks do you see? I haven't found many, and I've looked. Thought it'd be cool & unusual to paint it to match the infamaous "79 Pace Truck" and tub the rear end. Build the 460... whoo-hoo!
I need advice guys... should I do it? Second thoughts ya know... got the 460 on an engine stand now, waiting for me. Have an 2001 F150 Supercrew 4x4, so I no longer "need" a 4x4. Wouldn't have time to use a big & bad '79 4by anyway, but always time to hot rod, right? Heck, maybe even make a cruise or two!
(If it matters, I think the 460 was orig outta a '72 Linclon, matted to a c6 w NP 205)
Please help! Should I / is it worth it / how much hassle am I in for?
Thanks!
