V-10 and transmissions
I spoke with a " Auto Dealer " / broker asked him to keep an eye out for an Ex with V-10 its what I am looking for, he shot back at me sure But thos V-10s sneaking up on 200K mileage will surely need a tranny rebuilt very soon because "he said" that V-10s are known for having tranny issues, I said Hmmmmm ok, Thoughts anyone?

I'd say it's pretty common that automatics behind both V10's and PSD's have had some troubles at one point or another by 200K. Nothing wrong with that in my book, they get rebuilt and put back into service all the time. We bought our Ex with 28K on it and it already had a transmission rebuild. Zero problems since then. Would you rather have a transmission with 200K on it than one that was rebuilt a while back?

I've got v10 with 175K and tranny still showing no signs of problems. Used by previous owner and myself to tow quite heavy loads (10K trailer). Paying attention to gears and shifting of tranny while towing and routine maintenance has gotten me this far. If at 200K I need a rebuild.......that's asking enough in my book from the factory.

I did put a torque converter in my V10 Ex a month ago, but I had an expectation that it had an issue when I bought the vehicle.
A week or so back, someone posted a web site where one can buy genuine Ford parts at a remarkable discount (I should have saved the link). The Torque converter was around $250 and and entire transmission about $2K.

Do you plan to do much of the work yourself? Sway bar bushings aren't expensive. If you've got access to a press (they're pressed in and you'll need a press to remove them) the entire deal should be under $100.
A friend just put "two piece" bushings in his F-250 Super Duty. Pressed out the old ones and the new (two piece) ones set in without a press. Not sure that I trust them, but he's a former mechanic and wasn't at all concerned by them.
