Have to Push Hard on Brakes to Stop

I have a brake problem, it takes a lot of pedal pressure to stop. Even a panic stop at 10 mph the brakes do not bring the vehicle to stop quickly end effortlessly as they should.

2005 v10.

Does the pedal feel heavy? If so, maybe your brake booster gone bad? A vacuum leak on the hose to the brake booster?

If it doesn't, maybe your pads are glazed?

you should also check your slide pins. I just cleaned and lubed the slide pins on my F250 and the pedal felt much better.

Like said above, check and lube slide pins first, and that will give u a feel also for what pad condition is while in there.

I had this issue last fall. I'm 260 lbs and I had to grab bottom of wheel and step into pedal with both feet while pushing back into the seat and I could not get the abs or tires to lock on wet roads. I knew slide pins and calipers where good cuz I maintained 2 times a yr. I ended up changing front rotors and shoes to the cryogenic power slot with hawk pads to get my braking to where it should be.

I feel u will have a brake job in your near future.

Thanks guys,

The booster seems to be good, I'll look at the calipers this weekend. Just bought the truck and it has 94K so I doubt the pads are the original.

I never noticed my breaks being difficult or bad, my buddy drove my truck the other day who owns a cobalt and said he had to stand on the pedal to get the truck to stop. Just a thought

My pedal is squishy up top, but once it squishes down it isn't hard to stop. Similar to any other car I have driven.(not the squishy part) Now, if you try to drive the excursion like a cobalt can be driven...you might have a problem stopping.

When was the fluid last serviced? Maybe you should change the fluid and see what happens. You might have air in your lines and a flush will take care of that if done right. Also might need new hoses. Preferably braided SS hoses.
