Hi juicyjuice and welcome to FTE 
Just behind your catalytic convertor there is what looks like an O2 sensor. It is actually a catalyst monitor that checks to see if the cat is working properly. If you get rid of the cat the sensor will see that and turn on the check engine light and possibly cause driveability problems. Leave the cat alone
