Bed installation on F-3

Having trouble installing bed on an F-3. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am lost. Existing bed has wooden x-members and new x-members are too small.

These pics show what you should be seeing. If you've got metal cross members, they are probably half ton pieces and will be too short and too thin. All the 48-52 F-2s/F-3s had wood. The best place I know of to get the kit is Bruce Horkey. Here's his web link. Stu

Keep in mind that the diagram I posted is for the center two braces. The outer braces are about 2 5/8" deep x 1 3/4" wide, with a notched out area at the side walls. The brace that goes at the headboard is special and has a routed out channel to allow the headboard to sit in the recessed area. There was a good thread on this long ago on the old Bonus Built web site that showed that trucks from different plants had different length cross members. So I'd say to just cut to fit your bed width allowing for wood movement with the seasons. To me, if you don't have the old braces to use as a pattern, you are better off buying a set from Bruce Horkey. Stu
