mmmm not really i have been doing this for mmmm approximately 150,000 miles trouble free .. so im guessing i have not been mislead as well i haven't been paying to much for my filters. also penskie filter will work for me

P.S. pulled the valve covers about 10,000 miles ago to take a look inside .. everything is clean as a whistle as well as compression and also took a look inside the combustion chamber using a bore scope everything is looking almost new so i dont know .. maybe i have been getting the 1% of the good batch of filters that are distributed to jiffy lube around the entire usa ? who knows lol

edit.. also i change my oil every 6000 miles

I've been changing my own oil for around 40 years. The main reason I do it is for the visual inspection. There have been countless times that I've caught a problem early just because I'm examining both the top and bottom of the engine every 5000 miles.

A couple years ago while changing the oil in my Excursion I noticed oil on the drivers side front shock. I thought a shock had ruptured, but closer inspection revealed it was coming from somewhere else. It turned out to be a hydra-boost line that was leaking. My dealer said the line was literally holding on by its last thread. Now imagine what could have happened if that line had let go while running down the highway, likely spraying oil on a hot engine and greatly increased effort to apply the brakes. That's the reason I change my own oil..

Jiffy Lube uses mostly Pennzoil filters which are made by Purolator so nothing wrong with those. Not the best - but they are certainly above Fram and some of the others which some shops use. If they are using Rotella T then you should have a 5000 mile service interval so a little extra most likely isn't hurting you.
