I am fortunate enough to not have any rust on either one of my trucks! Are you just going to fix yours, or replace? Just an FYI, when you do it, its A LOT easier to move and handle if you have as much of the weight off as possible. Mine is bare! Nothing on it, and it took 3 of us to lift it! You probabily already know this, but ill tell you anyway

It feels good to work on it again! I have a quarter of the inside in primer, and about half of what s left is already scuffed up so i can prime it! Im just ready to be done!

The only reason I even have rust on my cab is because when the truck sat, the windshield leaked and all the water that puddled under the vinyl mat tore up my floors, and all the water that soaked the firewall mat ate my firewall. My fenders, cab corners, bed sides, frame, and tailgate are all in perfect shape.

I will be replacing the rusted out panels with new sheet metal. I'm still torn on painstakingly looking for a good quality new replacement panels, or painstakingly looking for a rust free cab to steal panels from. Either way, I'm keeping my current cab, because the rust is only in the foot tubs, and on the driver's side firewall around the E-brake cable. It's not much, but it's gonna be at least 40 hours worth of work. The firewall is gonna kill me, because they don't make replacement panels for that.

As far as lifting the cab goes, I have about 8 or 9 good friends that can all help me lift the cab off the frame, so I could always lift it off loaded, but I don't want any slag or burn marks getting on my perfect dash, so I will be gutting the entire cab before I even think about pulling out the grinder.

That sounds like lots of fun!! NOT! At least thats the only place its rusted... I have seen trucks that half the bed and fenders were gone, and the cab corners are no where to be seen! I sold my bed to a guy with a truck like this... it was BAD!

Hey, 1980 Ford F-250, you and Shaun are doing great things with your trucks, keep up the good work. I have to tackle the rust in my floor pans sometime in the semi-near future. That job will be my time to re-learn the art of welding. The water under the mat was my downfall too. I think after I get my floor pans done, I will spray them with several coats of epoxy primer, them spray some bed-liner over that to seal out any moisture from getting back in. I think I will put some type of foil sound deadner/insulation (the kind that won't soak up water) under where the rubber mat will go, and leave the rest of it in bed-liner material. Keep up the good work guys.

Same exact plan I have.

I just can't believe how much rust can come from a few years of water.

Shaun, you've got a little bit more than I do. I think I'm going to order some panels and just cut the bad spots out and only replace them, not the whole panel.

And the patch my wife made to cover the spots on her side.

Those pics don't even show the rust by the door hinges, below my rain guards, or on my rocker panels where the weatherstrip sits.

I just can't believe a Florida/California truck rusted out this bad.

I agree!

This is probably my favorite build here, next to my own of course.

Been there, done that, four different times. Each and every single time I was in a relationship, I referred to that period as the "Dark Days" for my trucks, because nothing ever got done on them. If I did do anything on them, I'd get an earful about spending more time with my trucks then my girl, and well, that just didn't work out well for me at all.

Now that I'm single, the motor is out of my truck, she's now 4x4, my interior is all one color, and I'm searching for a new motor.

Hahahaha!! My girlfriend actually likes helping me! she helped me pull the top end of the 400 apart on Halloween, while she was handing out candy!

Though i did get more done when i was single, making her happy is more important than the truck... for now
