460 running rough...need help

just got a 1995 f250 with a efi 460. first off, truck runs rough at idle and stumbles at take off. once running down the road it will go but lacks power and can feel it missing when shifting into o/d. got it into my shop and noticed the timing didn't seem right. on the dizzy cap #1 plug wasnt set to the 1 on the cap. it was set two spots over going counter clockwise. reset wires to 1-5 and so on because they werent even in the right order. don't remember what it was but it started 1-8.... anyway truck wouldn't even start with the factory timing order. put it back to the way it was and it started back up but still ran like crap. decided to take #1 cylinder plug out to find top dead center and couldn't get the socket on cause the manifold got in the way. looks like there bigger that whats supposed to be on the block. the manifolds have all the egr ports so i would guess there for efi. im at at loss. with the timeing order, the manifolds and the all out running condition. i know i wrote alot but will answer all questions best i can.

well reading around look like someone put a carbed motor in this thing. considering the exhaust manifolds. im still stuck on the timeing order and why it starts off 1-8 and not in the right place. guess its going back on craigslist cause im not messing around trying ot find a new block.

Clarify this a bit, you have a originally efi truck that is now running a carb?

In any case when I buy a rig all my fluids, hoses, belts, plugs, wires are all checked and 9/10 times I change them because I like doing it and two I know how fresh they are.

no its efi but seems to have a carb long block. thats why all the efi stuff dosen't line up(exhaust manifold in the way of the plug), timing order is messed up(or atleast i think). and the over all reason it runs like crap. were there any 460's that had a timing order that started 1-8...?

quick question that might clear up some of the matter. will efi valve cover fit a car head. i thought i might have read somewhere that they bolt differently. if so that clarifies i have efi heads and that the exhaust manifold might be a pos aftermarket one and be the reson for the spark plug socket issues.

I didn't think an EFI intake manifold would bolt to the carb heads?

No....I don't think Ford changed the firing order and Im pretty sure it's not 1-8...
Try 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8.
