B&W Gooseneck Companion 5th Wheel Hitch

Does any one know the weight of the hitch? Wondering how much of a bear it would be for the wife to take out if I weren't there.

I went to the B&W site to look it up because I want to say it's in the 120-150# range, but I couldn't find it anywhere. A quick search of the interwebs didn't reveal anything either. I'm actually looking at getting one in the next few days, so if you haven't gotten an answer by then, I'll try to figure it out and post it up.

Well if it helps. It does come apart into two pieces so that helps getting it in and out of the bed

I'm not sure how much it weighs, but I do know it's not, easily, a 1 person job to move the Companion.

not only is it heavy, it is also pretty awkward.

An engine hoist works well though.

Got mine ordered today and I'm picking it up Wednesday. Also picked up a brake controller (Tekonsha Voyager), and a 7 pin hookup with preinstalled cord; it's got a 90° rear so I'm hoping I can install it between the bedrail and top of the fender, but I digress.... I'll do my best to get you a weight for the unit (no scale, so we'll see what I can come up with), but if nothing else, I'll give you an opinion on how hard it is for me to move it around.

May I ask what prompted you to purchase the Voyager over the Prodigy?

It was cheaper and in stock where I would have to wait for the prodigy to show up. The mechanic also told me that the prodigy is only advantageous with more than 2 axles. I may have to buy a new one some day down the road for a bigger trailer, but right now, I'm blowing through cash like there's no tomorrow so I need to save a little money somewhere. I really need to get past July and start earning some real money.

just curious, why go with a hitch adapter in the bed of the truck and not a gooseneck adapter for the trailer? I use a colibert adapter..link

It has worked well for me.

From what I've gleaned from the towing section of this site along with searches elsewhere on the internet, a 5th wheel plate is going to provide more stability in windy situations than a gooseneck will. Also, I'm future-proofing for a possible air-ride pin box. I like the looks of most of the 5th wheel air-ride boxes more than I do the air-ride gooseneck hitches.

I don't know if all of my feelings are correct, but it's the choice I've made. If nothing else, it gives me options down the road if I just need to borrow somebody elses toy-hauler or camper....

Not all fifth wheel pin boxes/frames can take the stress or so that's what I've read on forums . Take it at face value, sounds like you have one and have had no problems.

sounds good.

If the ride is significantly better I might consider getting the B&W adapter myself.....hummm. Maybe I will have to find one to test out

Well had the hitch installed today. I'm not a great guesser for weight but my guess would be the base 60-70# and the fifth wheel top part 50# maybe, not awfully heavy at all. I paid to have the part under the truck bed installed don't have time or drill to do that myself on the road. The top part was easy. Here is a couple pics with more in my gallery.

Now I need to find something to tow.

You beat me to it!! I had my turnover hitch installed this past Saturday (along with Line-X), but I just picked up the Companion hitch today. It's been unboxed, but I had to get to work, so assembly is waiting until after work, 2 regular assignments, a unit review before the final, and studying for the final has all been accomplished tonight, only then can i put it together fully.
