I have a 06 f150 5.4 flex fuel with cold air and superchip. when I gun the throttle when truck is semi-cold it spudders. when truck has been driven for an hour or so it does just fine. I noticed this problem around the same time that I put on the K&N cold air and it seems to not matter what tune or fuel octane I use. I have thought that it may have something to due with the throttle body spacer or an air fuel mixture problem with the aftermarket intake, but I am unsure. It still does it when on the stock tune so I am certain that it is not the chip. If anyone has had this problem or may know that the problem is please respond.
Do you have a scanner to look at the data stream?
It might be that with the aftermarket intake plumbing, the inlet air tem sensor may not be sending the right signal to the ecm causing the wrong fuel table to be used by and causing the stumble.
Just a thought.
My truck has been doing the same exact thing since I put my Volant Cold Air Intake on. I still haven't figured it out so if you have any luck please let me know. Thanks
It has leaned out the AF mixture enough that you need new tunes written to compensate for the increase in airflow. If I were to guess, would would really notice this problem if you were towing whether cold or warmed up. That is assuming that there are no vacuum leaks and the installation is correct, of course.
Install is correct and I've checked several times for vaccum leaks. Im pretty familiar with both but haven't had the AF mixture changed! Not real sure how to go about that.
I had the same problem when I put a K&N on my truck...and it was only the filter... that oil slowly but surely seeps its way back into the TB and if you have a CAI then it will diminish the quality of reading of the MAF sensor... Do you hear pinging or knocking when you start up the truck until it warms up?? Like mentioned above it may be the insufficient map for the amount of Air/Fuel Mixture...temporarily bogging your engine down...
So I cleaned my TB and still does it, so this weekend I am going to clean my MAF sensor and see if that has any luck with the spudder problem. If that doesn't work does any one else have any ideas.
I don't have the stock air box any more have had the CAI for about a year and a half and got rid of the stock air box about 6 months ago.
The plugs if they have never been changed before (Idk if the plug have been changed before, I am second owner bought it with 48000 miles) have 90k miles on the truck now. But planning on have the plugs changed over spring break and coil packs too.
Time for a tune up. If new plugs and boots don't help, check the FPDM. It's located on the X-member just ahead of the spare tire. They have been know to corrode thru and cause fuel flow and pressure problems.
