Float sticking open

went to start my truck this morning and it fired then quickly stumbled and died. opened the hood and there was gas leaking everywhere. Tapped the carb and everything was fine. Got half way to town and it died at a stopsign and wouldn't start up, opened the hood and sure enough gas dripping out, tapped the carb again and was fine.

Any idea why my float is suddenly starting to stick open? I could see it sticking closed but seems like open is more unusual???

It will stick open if there is debris present, or the needle's synthetic tip has been eaten by ETOH gas, or the float retainer is out of its groove or broken, or the float has a hole. The carb needs a rebuild.
