My f-250 has a GVWR of 7700lbs. In my 1977 truck brochure it says that my model has a rating of "3745 lbs (7700 lbs)" is this saying that the total weight it can carry is 3745 lbs which added on to the weight of the truck is 7700 pounds? If so I am happy because that would mean the truck actually weighs a little under 4000 pounds. Thanks.

It is possible I guess. My 77 F150 2wd weighed in at 4480 with a 1/2 tank of gas without me in it. I have since changed beds and need to reweigh it. My old be had the bottom rotted out of it and someone had a heavy piece of diamond plate steel for the bed floor. I am sure that the plate didn't weigh 525 lbs though.
I went to the quarry near me not too long ago to get a load of stone for my driveway. My 79 F250 4x4 with a steel diamond plate flatbed dump weighed in at 6060 LBS with a full tank of gas when it wasn't loaded. It's a little too much bed for the truck as it is, and the bad part is the previous owner titled it at 5000 GVWR to save a little money on registration fees!
Go by a truckstop that has scales and ask if you can weigh on their scales, there will probably be a charge. Otherwise take your truck to a highway weigh station, they will usually weigh for free. Some commercial plants , grain elevators, scrap yards, etc will have scales.

Oh yeah, Most of the time the curb weight given by manufacturers is the weight of a low option model that is dry of fluids. Most options add weight(a/c, tow package etc) so that most of the vehicles out there do not weigh exactly the same. I would guess it probably weighs between 4000 and 5000 lbs. Mine is a F150 Custom. No air, just a 460/C6 with a 3.00 geared 9" rearend. 15x8 Chrome wagon wheels with 31x10.50x15 in the front and 32x11.50x15 in the rear. The only options that my truck has is power steering and brakes. It also has carpet(my other one only has the rubber mat). Like I said earlier, it weighs in @ 4480. No wonder it only gets 6-8 mpg. @ $1.79 a gal, I'm dying over here!!!
It seems about par for most 460's. I do think that I need a lower gear. I lose alot at lower speeds due to the converter slipping alot. I have a 3.00 gear with 32" tires. This makes my overall ratio 2.75. The speedo is dead on according to the portable radars on the side of the road. I am running the standard(gray) speedo cable gear. I think that a 3.50 or 3.70 gear would be better. The best I ever got was 12 on the highway with a 3.50 gear, but I traded them away looking for better mileage and hurt myself. Oh well, live and learn.

This is true, but my converter(stock) doesn't lock up until about 1800rpm. So cruising around town at anything under 55mph, I am wasting inertia thru the slipping converter, not to mention building heat in the tranny. I tow a car trailer alot too, so the added gear would be better for getting 10,000lbs + rolling. I wish they made an overdrive tranny that didn't cost an arm and a leg that would hold up to the torque of the big block and doesn't require a computer. Like an older 700r4. Don't shoot me, but the Ford AOD is junk. It works ok behing a 3.8 v6, but it can't hardly hold up behing a non-HO 5.0 let alone a 460. I do not like the weak lock-up assembly in them and I do not like being locked when in 3rd gear and only doing 32 mph. An Allison out of a school bus would work if it wasn't so big.
