If anything that hood is hurting your milage. The 2 holes are like 2 small parachutes catching air. your old hood air just flowed over.

Also 85 miles is not nearly enough miles to accurately calculate milage. Try it again over a couple tank loads and then divide your miles by fuel.

I bet i can get 17mpg out of my 460 in a certain 85 miles stretch of road

I'm gonna top off, and keep a 2 gallon gas can in the bed....When it runs out, I'll put the extra in, an top off again....Then I'll post up what I am getting over the course of a COMPLETE tank...I was just wondering if that MPG was relatively correct....

There is no need to run the tank dry... and that's hard on the pumps anyway so it's not advised. You just need to know how far you have gone form one fuel up to the next and it doesn't even matter if you use the whole tank or just part of it.. the math will break it down and give you a number for that interval.

I wasn't meaning run it till it literally just runs the pump DRY....Just till it starts bucking...Then simply shut the key off....Fill with the extra gas, and away I go...

I know, 85 miles isn't a LOT of driving, but no matter how many times I do the math, and how many times I do the topoff test....It comes up within 1 mpg +/-.......So I am just gonna go with it being relatively accurate...

Best I have gotten strictly highway was on a 165miles....Topped off @ about 8-1/2 gallons....So definantly in the 18-20mpg HIGHWAY arena....

Not trying to build my truck up to be more than what it is: A truck....Not a hybrid tampon.....It is functional, useful, and really, unless I have kids, I won't be getting another car....Because, if I can't pay $5 more dollars at the pump to topoff again, I definantly can't make a $200-400 payment every month.....

That right there is what kills me....It literally makes my skin crawl....Some dickweed will go buy a NICE truck, slap a set of 33-35" tires on it, play Mario Andretti EVERYWHERE he goes....Then when he realizes its only getting 12-15 mpg, sells it....ANd pissing and moaning about MPG the whole time...

Me on the other hand, here is what I have did:
-Changed tranny/rear diff fluids
-Added new 235/75/15's
-New brakes all around
-New steering components from balljoint to balljoint...
-Plugs (Gapped at .44), wires, dizzy cap/rotary button
-Seafoamed the intake 3 times, 1 time in the crank case
-Use 2 bottle of injector cleaner every 2-3 fillups
-New pvc valve
-Intake routed down and forward...
**********************************

Still have a new radiator, serpentine belt (Smog pump-less) to put on....

Thats about as good as it's gonna get untill I pull the engine, get the block decked and bored back out to true specs, add a camshaft/lifter kit, port the head, add 1.7 rockers, and add adustable timing gears....

Out of curiousity, will it help to advance the timing about 4* at the crank, not the dizzy?

Sidewinder, could you post some other pics of your CAI? It looked interesting and I normally don't ask questions if I can find the info readily.

There's no need to run down 'til it's totally out of fuel. If anything, filling up from a can will throw your results off. You want to eliminate any chance of error, and by introducing the gas can into the equation it'll throw things off.

Run down until there's 1/4 tank left then fill it up til it clicks off on its own, and use that gallon amount along with the mileage draveled in that duration. 200+ miles should be sufficient. 80 something miles isn't. Running the tank dry isn't a realistic reflection of real fuel economy anyway.

Ya I heard recently you shouldn't run less that 1/4 tank. Below that and the pumps are no longer submerged. So they will be running hotter, and will wear faster

The 4.9 has a rating of 15 city 20 highway on the window sticker. Why do you have your air cleaner going down to the tire? That air filter will be dirty in no time. The stock air box on the I6 is already a cold air intake.

I wanted a CAI, and it seems that the ones for the truck (Just the weird looking filter that lays behind the overflow resevoir) were subjected to warm air permeating the intake tube...So I routed it down...Still have some tweeking to do, and maybe a little bit different placement....

My setup is a 95 F.150 4.9L six 5spd, 3:31 axle LWB 2x4, all stock, 76,000 miles. My documented mileage averages 14.5 city/18.5 highway. That's a rolling average over 22,000 miles. I've recorded as low as 12, as high as 20 mpg. These engines aren't really known for good mileage, but the longevity is main reason I bought mine. My opinion, your mileage is just about spot on the mark.

I've noticed the E10/MTBE fuel blends do negatively impact my mileage, usually only by 1/2mpg.
