'97 F250 HD - How much life is left.

I'm close to purchasing a 1997 F250HD Long Bed, SCab, 4x4, 5 speed manual with the 5.8L gas engine. 166K on it all the perks on the inside and in decent shape. Only cosmetic damage is the ever present rust over the rear fenders and the bed could be in better shape but that doesnt bother me. Runs good and all but what can I expect to take a dump on me down the road? Anything major? And whats a good price.

not sure on what a good price is,but that platform is a good platform. How long it will last depends on previous owners use/misuse and maintenance schedule. That engine is known to last 200,000-300,000 miles.

Even if it takes a dive on you soon down the road, thats definitely a truck worth putting a new engine in. They don't make trucks like these anymore, and if that one area of rust doesn't bother you and you go through the regular maintenance, its gonna be a nice, dependable truck for a long time.

And kbb said about $3300, so see if you can get it for $2900 or $3000.

I have the 5.8L in my F250. It's not a 4X4 or a manual, I get the luxury of having absolutely horrible gas mileage with my C6. However, my engine has 198,XXX miles on it, and it starts, runs, outruns and out pulls a lot of vehicles. It runs like it's just from the factory, and the horrible PO didn't give a crap about maintenance. It won't crap out on you anytime soon, At least, the engine won't.

Your motor has turned over a few times too with a C6 and 4.10 gears if you do any highway driving!

I don't do any highway driving. I think it wastes too much gas with those high revs in 3rd. Mines mostly in town, and either loaded or unloaded depending on what day it is.
