Runs Rough
I took a trip the other day truck idled rough has a greyish smoke and fuel mileage was was down about 3 or 4 mpg I have an edge platinum with A2 monitor pulled codes P0460 P0463 p1378 U0155 U0100 I checked the Ficm had 48 volts not running and 49.4 when idling any thoughts? Any help in where to start would be greatly appreciated

Batteries seem fine charging around 13.9 volts I haven't done any work to the truck lately I drove it up the street today after I let it warm up if I don't let it warm up it runs super sluggish fuel smoke at idle and more when you first take off got home and sat in the driveway held the accelerator down to 1500 rpm's and every few seconds the rpm's would drop down about 75rpm's and then back up, don't know if this means anything or not I will start checking the harness. The truck is a 06 F350 with about 70,000 miles

i have an 06 f250 with 125k on it. i was getting the code for glow plug 4 when i would run my truck in performance mode on my CTS programmer. I would blow alot of black smoke in that mode. I went back to tranny only setting so I wouldnt break anything. the code went away. well now it's back and I have had really rough idol at start up and very very sluggish until engine oil temp reaches about 100 degrees. Now I am throwing the FICM code and the glow plug circuit 4. I found out I'm out of warranty, and a FICM from ford will be $1200 installed and programmed. is this what i need? my voltage on the FICM will fluxulate between 35 and 45 volts. when it's at 40 volts I dont get an alarm though. Also, I havent thrown a CEL yet either

I was told anything below 45 volts on the ficm and it is time to replace. You can do it yourself I believe there is a tech file showing how to solder it back or there are places that will solder it for you and all you have to do is put it back on alot cheaper than $1200 or swamps sells a beefed up version. Good Luck

I think swamps was around 450.00 or so IIRC
or you could try to reflow the ficm circut board per the tech folder

The problem sounds very similar to mine a few weeks ago. I did end up testing my FICM and found it was sub par on voltage output. I removed the unit and looked at all the connections, they all looked good but to be safe I took the board to a friend who is a electronics tech and had him re flow the solder joints. I reinstalled the unit and it still was not reading the proper voltage. I ended up having the local Ford dealer install a new FICM (had to be a Ford garage because the new FICM had to be programed). Check around for pricing, (I live in Maine) one dealer wanted $1100 I got mine installed for $725........$515 for FICM $210 for labor.
good luck!

I took mine out this morning. Took about 30 min to take out since the back two bolts/nuts and mounting plate were not there.
My first thought was greeeeeeeeat, this thing has already been messed with. While disconnecting the 3 plugs, the furthest back one was really easy to disconnect (quiet possibly was the issue for the fluxuating volts).
I brought it inside, opened it up and found that it haddn't been messed with yet. I reflowed all the connections and reinstalled. This was the hardest part. That back plug was the hardest to get to. Now I have 47.5 volts with koeo, 47.5 48 volts at start up, and 47 48 volts at idol. I'll have to see what it does while driving now. I have an Edge CTS programmer so I have one of the gauges set to monitor the FICM volts
