Reverse back up lights not working

So I noticed the other night that my "new" 1999.5 truck's reverse lamps are not turning on when I'm in Reverse. Since this is a new to me truck, I am assuming this issue was a pre-existing condition. Tonight I replaced both lamps, but it did not solve the problem. Also, I checked fuse #28, and it was fine.

Any thoughts?

When looking in the owner's book in the Fuse section, I saw one of the fuses under the hood mentioned the back up lights and the speed control module (assuming Cruise Control?). I do know my cruise control has been disabled and has not had the Recall repair on it yet. Because that relay / wire is unhooked in the engine compartment (driver's side near the wheel well / battery area), could that be the culprit?

My guess would be the dtr on the transmission. That sends the voltage to the reverse lights. Here is a wiring diagram you can check out: http://www.e-toolbox.com/ads/wiring/va112365.pdf

REPS to TDPOWER. Once again, the collective knowledge of FTE saves the day. Instead of paying $80-90 at the dealer for a DTR (or MLPS), or $60 at wholesale, I found a 100% positive feedback seller on eBay that sells used sensors guaranteed to work...for $12 plus $5 shipping! HA!

Slapped that puppy in there, and VOILA...the reverse lights work.

Thanks again TDPOWER, and FTE!

He is referring to the recall for the cruise control pressure switch, located on the master cylinder, that has been known to short out. An updated harness and inline fuses are placed on the switch to prevent electrical fires.

Sounds like you could be. Sounds like a trip to the Ebay seller that Tailgate went to.
